Madrid Airport Metro

From the airport to the city center you can take the direct Metro line 8 to the city center from either Terminal 4, floor 1, or Terminal 2, floor 1.

The ride from Madrid Airport to the city center takes around 15 minutes.

Trains leave every 5 minutes from 6.00am to 2.00am. Line 8 goes straight to the Nuevos Ministerios Metro station in the center of Madrid, with a journey time of 12 minutes. From there you can switch to Line 6 or Line 10.

The price of a single journey to or from the airport is currently 5 euros, which includes a supplementary airport charge. If you already possess a valid Metro ticket, you can simply purchase the airport supplementary ticket which is 2 euros cheaper.

Remember that you will be going up and down stairs and across platforms onto a metro without room for luggage. Something to take into account when planning how to get into the city.

Those planning on using public transportation while in Madrid, meaning everybody, should look into the Madrid Tourist Travel Pass, which allows you to travel on any Metro, bus or suburban train, all included in the price of just 5 euros, making it a great way to save money on public transport. With this pass, it is not necessary to pay the airport surcharge.

It is also a great idea to set up your trip by pre-purchasing a Madrid City Pass. Along with pre-booking your first night’s accommodation, having a plan to see the city’s highlights will allow you to relax and enjoy rather than stressing about your arrival.

Or you can buy a 10-trip “Metrobus” ticket, valid for both the Metro and city buses, at newspaper outlets, “estancos” or tobacconists and Metro stations. Note that you will still need to purchase the supplementary ticket for any journey to/from the airport.
